Web10 okt. 2011 · The frizzens are not hard to change out if needed. If they get worn through the hardening, they can be rehardened with kasinite, or shoed with a piece of hacksaw blade. The Lyman GPR in flintlock is a fine rifle also. I am currently using a Deer Creek rifle which came as a kit (it's the same as the old CVA Mountain Rifle). It's 3/4 oz leather. I guess I'll try a thicker piece, maybe put the rough side out. You might try a double layer of the 3-4 oz. Might thicken it up enough to be as substantial as you need. Mike
Web21 nov. 2014 · It's not "easy" to make marks on a hard frizzen, and shows you just how hard and sharp a piece of flint is. What we usually call "sparks" coming off a frizzen are actually tiny pieces of steel sliced off by the piece of Flint. And the friction of that happening generates heat which turns the tiny pieces flying off red hot.
